Course Overview
From the Tower of London with its sparkling jewels
and amazing dungeons to Westminster Abbey's
soaring arches, this London-based seminar offers students the opportunity to not only
experience living in one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities -- it offers them the experience of
interacting on a personal basis with and learning from public relations and advertising practitioners involved
in international communication work. SEMINAR PREREQUISITE: Completion of
Principles of Public Relations (COMM 2145) or permission of instructor. All
participants must be in good academic standing at their home institutions in
order to participate.
- What:
- Spend 20 days studying international public relations and advertising with practitioners
and educators.
- How:
- By attending lectures led by some of Europe's leading practitioners, working on an
international project with a leading London agency, researching in the Regents College library,
interacting with seminar participants and taking part in field trips, students will earn three
undergraduate or graduate credit hours. Students have unlimited access to Regents College library,
including computers with internet and e-mail access as well as resources and introductory lectures
provided at UNC Charlotte before departing for the United Kingdom.
- When:
- Students will arrive in London on Monday, May 15th, and will depart from
Regents College on Friday, June 2nd. Students must be in residence and attend all
seminar sessions.
- Where:
Classes will be conducted at Regents College, Regents Park, in central London. The college is
located near Sherlock Holmes Baker Street tube station, just a short distance from Buckingham
Palace and world-famous shopping on Oxford Street. The campus, situated in a 400-acre park with
a lake, waterfall and rose gardens, has classroom buildings, a library, dorms, cafeteria, Internet Cafe,
student center with resident assistants plus a travel agent, laundry facilities, cafes in the park and 24-hour security.
- Costs:
- Seminar cost, payable to UNC Charlotte, is $2,895.00. A payment schedule is available

(this is subject to change as arrangements are made with Regents College):
- 3 hours of undergraduate credit (COMM 4050) or 3 hours of graduate credit
(COMM 5000)
- A multiple-occupancy dorm room
- A Regents cafeteria meal card
- Unlimited Regents College library, computer and e-mail use
- Roundtrip bus transportation from and to Gatwick Airport and Regents College
- A bus and tube (subway) pass for unlimited travel in Zone 1 during the program

- What you pay individually and in addition:
- Roundtrip airfare - Students are responsible for getting to and from London.
- a $40 Deposit - for keys and library and meal cards when you arrive at Regents.
When you depart Regents, your deposit is refunded upon return of the keys and cards.
You may use American Dollars, English pounds or travelers' checks for your deposit.
- Your passport - passports cost $97 (+ cost of photos). For more info see The U.S. Department of State's

You can apply for a passport at the USPS Passport Agent at 201 N
McDowell St, Charlotte.
- Spending money - for off-campus food, shopping, theater tickets, and sightseeing.
- Remember, financial aid for which you qualify can be applied toward this seminar.
