STUDY FOR A SEMESTER OR YEAR IN LIMOGES, FRANCE Limoges has two thousand years
of history and is home to 200,000 inhabitants. Located only 3 hours
away from Paris and two and a half hours from the Atlantic ocean, Limoges
is in an excellent position for the student eager to travel and experience
many different parts of France. Limoges is known all over the world
for its china (porcelaine de Limoges) and for the quality of it's beef (boeuf
limousin). The cultural activities that Limoges has to offer range
from the famous enamel museum to the beautiful botanical gardens
(below).
Limoges, the sister city of Charlotte in France, is the capital of the Limousin. Founded more than 2,000 years ago, it is a historic, world-renowned city with a dynamic traditional and modern industrial sector (china, leather goods, electronic equipment...) at the heart of a beautifully preserved agricultural region. Limoges, which has a population of 150,000, has been ranked as one of the best cities in which to live in France. The University of Limoges, with 15,000 students, is playing a major role in the development of the region. It is a comprehensive university offering courses in the humanities, arts, sciences, law and business, medicine and pharmacy, education, and engineering, as well as French courses for non-French speakers. You can take advantage of long semester breaks as well as weekends to visit the city and the area (cathedrals, churches, castles, Aubusson tapestries, museums...) or neighboring attractions (chateaux of the Loire Valley, vineyards of Bordeaux, the picturesque villages of the Dordogne, prehistoric caves, the Atlantic ocean...).
